A combination of the increasing reliance of provincial governments on clinical data to determine hospital funding and health care planning requirements along with the increasing shortage of Health Information Management (HIM) professionals resulted in the formation of medEKS, in 2001.

Initially we provided only coding support services to hospitals primarily in Ontario, gradually expanding to other provinces including Alberta, Manitoba and Newfoundland. 

As health records coded data became more important in the funding of hospitals, MedEKS expanded services to include coding data and clinical documentation quality, utilization management and report writing services.    

Today MedEKS provides a full range of HIM support services and solutions to meet the real world needs of hospital Health Information Departments.
